Mullabrack make Quarter Finals

Mullabrack travelled to Keady to take on neighbours Poyntzpass in the opening round of the Junior Championship on Monday evening 2/8/10.

Played in perfect conditions Poyntzpass opened the scoring with two quick points before Chris McCann opened Mullabracks account converting a free. Mullabrack were slow to settle and allowed their opponents in for two quick goals and take a seven point lead. However the final ten minutes of the opening half saw Mullabrack reduce the defecit to five thanks to points from Chris McCann and Philip McGeown. Half time Poyntzpass 2:5 Mullabrack 0:6

Poyntzpass were first to score in the second half, extending their lead to six but the Mullabrack boys responded with three unanswered points. Poyntzpass tagged on a further two points but Mullabrack began to dominate play in all sectors with Philip McGeown and Phelim Sands winning a lot of good possession the mid-field area. Chris McCann was in fine free-taking form punishing Poyntzpass for their fouls and eating into their lead. Phelim Sands long range point, five minutes from time equalised the match at 2: 8 to 0:14. Paddy Grovers sweet strike over the cross bar was greeted by a huge cheer from the Mullabrack fans. Poyntzpass were soon on the attack searching for the equaliser but their attack was broke down by the fine interception of young Killien McNamee who was able to lay the ball on to Paddy Toal who obliged with a fine point. Marty Rice had given the Poyntzpass defence a torrid time and when he was fouled Mullabracks top scorer Chris McCann converted to leave the final score 0:17 to 2:8. This was a well deserved victory for the whole team who played out of their skins in the final quarter creating one of the best come backs ever displayed by a Mullabrack team. A special thanks to Tony Murphy and Charlie Agnew who helped manager John Henry on the night. Thanks also to physio, Martina Hearty who was kept busy on the night. The club would also like to thank  the Keady club and officials who officiated.
