Friday 15th August
Mullabrack 0:7 to
Cladai 1:10
This eagerly
awaited local derby lived up to all expectations. Cladai sitting at
the top of division 4 and Mullabrack a team inform. The game started
lively with points being exchanged in the first few minutes through
Gerard Agnew for the Brack and Philip Loughrane for Cladai. Cladai
then took a two point lead which was soon eradicated when John
Conlon and Gerard Agnew pointed again for the Brack. A goal from
Cladai midway through the first half and a final exchange of scores
saw Cladai go in at 1:4 to 4 points at the break. Cladai started the
second half quickly, but stern defending by Chris Dougan and Stephen
Sands kept the visitors at bay. Up until midway through the half
Mullabrack were still in contention. Cladai had taken 3 further
scores and then a goal against the run of play saw Cladai put some
daylight between the teams. Mullabrack had as much if not more
possession in the second half, but failed to take the scores both
from frees and open play. With 10 minutes to go and the score at 1:8
to 7 points a good run by Gary Gorman saw his shot rattle off the
Cladai bar. It was not to be Mullabracks night with Cladai taking
two final points before the ref blew for fulltime. This was a very
determined display by Mullabrack who on another night, if they had
taken there scores could have caused an upset.
